A music festival by young people – we do it ourselves!

The fifth edition of the youth festival will take place on 27 June 2026 in Cologne with students from the Gesamtschule Wasseramselweg and Gymnasiums Köln Pesch . Together with the Furore Ensemble and Merzouga, the pupils are developing short concerts, creative workshops and a colourful supporting programme for young people and families.

In cooperation with the Jungen Literaturhaus Köln and the jfc Medienzentrum e.V.

The :juba – jugend barock musik festival is the first early music festival in Germany organised by young people. Supported by the zamus team, professional ensembles selected by the school students themselves, and cultural figures from a wide range of fields, students develop the festival entirely on their own. They develop their own approaches to early music, primarily through their work as artistic directors of the festival, but also in project management and public relations. :juba boosts self-confidence: the young people can actively use their strengths, they are given real decision-making power and, after several months, they see the impressive results of their work – they become creators of culture.

Baroque on the Rhine – the podcast for the :juba Festival

We, students at the University of Cologne, are exploring a digital form of music education via podcast in cooperation with the ‘:juba’ project run by zamus: Zentrum für Alte Musik Köln (Cologne Centre for Early Music)!

Look forward to insider information from the Ensemble Furore, a true crime story, insights into special music education formats and much more!
